Christie and Gopi on the move?

Speedy wingers Christie Jayaseelan and R. Gopinathan could be headed to new clubs for the 2016 Malaysia Super League (MSL) season, FourFourTwo can reveal.

FourFourTwo understands Felda United are already making plans to replace Christie, who only arrived in mid-season this year from ATM.

The 29-year-old is believed to be on his way to Felda’s Malaysia Cup quarter-final opponents Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) next season.

An insider at Felda revealed that the Kuala Lumpur-based club has already shortlisted Pahang’s R. Gopinathan (seen above, right) as the man to fill Christie’s void.

Just like Christie, Gopinathan is a speedster down the flanks and often breaks away from defenders with lightning speed.

Part of Pahang’s Malaysia Cup-winning squads in 2013 and 2014, the 25-year-old Kuantan-born Gopinathan would add extra depth to a Felda side that already boasts experienced duo Shukor Adan and Indra Putra Mahayuddin.

It is understood Felda and Gopinathan have already reached an agreement over the move, but need to wait until the transfer window opens for it to be finalised.

Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP), who will be running the MSL from next year onwards, announced the transfer window dates on Tuesday.

The first window is from November 23, 2015 until February 14, 2016, with the second only opening between June 20-July 15 – a move away from the April window in place in recent years.

Gopinathan’s move could be the first of many departures from Pahang at the end of the Malaysia Cup.

Head coach Zainal Abidin Hassan is expected to sign for Selangor next year and could poach several players, such as Razman Roslan, Hafiz Kamal and Dickson Nwakaeme.

Nwakaeme also fuelled speculation of an impending departure after the Nigerian shared his desire to play for LionsXII on Twitter.

He posted: “@lionsxii360 the best team in MSL for me. Young and brave, talented lads. Wish to play for this team before I retire. They make football easy.”

Interestingly, Pahang play LionsXII in the Malaysia Cup quarter-final later this month and Nwakaeme’s posting could well be viewed as mind games ahead of the tie.
