Two-time Champions League winner Deco was introduced to media and guests as the new Tiger Street Football Ambassador today, in a press conference held at the luxury Sofitel Phnom Penh hotel in Cambodia.
Top street football teams from Cambodia, Mongolia, Singapore, Vietnam and Australia will be competing in the first leg of the Tiger Street Football tournament tomorrow, as they attempt to win the grand prize of USD $40,000 awarded to the winners of the competition.
Six outstanding players will also get the chance to play against legendary midfielder Deco and his mates at the Grand Finals in Singapore on September 6.
Speaking in the Grand Ballroom of the hotel, the former Barcelona, Chelsea and Porto playmaker was asked if he had any advice for the players.
"Just enjoy playing, don't think" the 2004 UEFA Club Footballer said.
"Of course everyone wants to go to Singapore but just go on to the pitch and enjoy.
"Just play and have fun because that's the most important thing about football."
Deco was also asked about his playing career, and seemed torn when encouraged to name his favourite out of all the teams he had played for.
"It's a difficult choice," the 36-year-old said.
"At Porto, I had a fantastic time — we won the Champions League and it's very difficult to win it with Porto.
"But when I went to Barcelona, we had a fantastic team, and we brought Barcelona back to the top."
This year's Tiger Street Football tournament will see some radical changes, with the cage that surrounded the playing area in the three previous editions being removed and the pitch size increased to encourage more expansive, creative play.
Fans will get to vote on rule changes at uncagefootball.com with matches also being broadcast live throughout the region on Foxsports and streamed live on the campaign website.comments
