Gan called up for Harimau Muda

Australian-born midfielder Brendan Gan has been called up for the Under-23 side’s training camp in preparation for the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

The 26-year-old Kelantan midfielder, who qualified to represent Malaysia through his father, was among the over-age selections, joining Terengganu winger Nor Farhan Muhammad, PDRM striker Bobby Gonzales and JDT captain Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak.

At least one of them, however, will be dropped because the Asian Games tournament only allows three over-age players per nation.

The majority of the training squad are made up of the Harimau Muda A players that spent the last six months in Australia, with Malaysian Super League youngsters such Nazmi Faiz Mansor, Junior Eldstal, Fadhli Shas and Wan Zaharulnizam Wan Zakaria filling up the reamining spots.

Head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee will finalise the squad nad trim it down 20 players before the team head to China on September 9 for their final preparation.

The South Korea showcase will kick off on September 14 with the Harimau Muda taking on the host nation in the opening match.
