Goalkeeper struck by lightning in Malaysia

They say that lightning doesn't strike twice, and Australian-Malaysia Marco Petrovski will be hoping for just that after being struck during training on Tuesday.

During a training session with club Melaka United, naturalised Malaysian goalkeeper Marco Stefan Petrovski was out on the pitch with teammates when the freak accident occured.

The 18-year-old, who is of mixed Australian and Malaysian heritage, was rushed to Malacca Hospital’s emergency unit after the incident occurred around late afternoon on Tuesday.

Petrovski is understood to be in a stable condition since, although his breathing is supported with the help of a ventilator, according to various reports.

He has been transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for further treatment.

Petrovski played for Sydney Olympic FC in Australia before making the switch over to Malaysia this year.

Fourth-Official.com reports that the keeper wasn't the only player felled by the lightning strike, with fellow player Muhammad Afiq Azuan also hit.

“Afiq is in a stable condition and unhurt, but traumatised,” team manager Khairi Ahmad told the National Straits Times.
