Jordan Henderson believes past guidance from Steven Gerrard will help him cope with the demands and rigors of being Liverpool’s captain.
Henderson took over the captain’s armband from Gerrard, who left the club for LA Galaxy following the conclusion of the 2014/15 season.
Ahead of the Malaysia XI-Liverpool encounter on Friday night, the newly appointed captain talked more about his new role.
“Last season was good preparation for me in terms of being vice-captain, and whenever Stevie was out, I tried to step in as best I could,” the England international said.
“Learning from a leader and role model like him has helped me a lot to lead this club as best I can.
“I’ve been given more responsibility for the team and I’ll continue to do my best for the team.”
When quizzed about the pressure of taking over from the Liverpool icon, Henderson brushed it aside.
“I don’t really think about taking over from Stevie too much,” he added.
“He was an influential player for many years and a great leader, but you have to move on from that.
“The biggest thing for is making sure everything around the team is perfect, and I’ll just try to continue to do my best and hope we have a successful season.”
