Malaysia to face Singapore in Suzuki Cup

Malaysia will face arch rivals and co-hosts Singapore in the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup following a draw at the Sheraton Hanoi Hotel on Tuesday.

The draw also put the Harimau Malaya together with Thailand and the winner of an upcoming qualifying round, which will be decided between Myanmar, Laos, Timor-Leste, Brunei and Cambodia, in the same group.

The last time the Causeway neighbours met in a competitive match saw Malaysia being humbled 3-0 by eventual winners Singapore in front of their own crowd in the 2012 edition, with Shahril Ishak and Aleksandar Duric grabbing the goals.

The Malaysians, who last lifted the trophy in 2010, also met their other group opponent, Thailand, in the same tournament, where they lost 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.

In the other group, co-hosts Vietnam will face the Philippines, Indonesia and the runner-up of the qualifying round.

The biennial tournament to crown the kings of ASEAN football will kick off on November 22.
