Ahead of Malaysia’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Timor-Leste and Palestine, football icon Pele offered the national players some words of wisdom.
A few Malaysia national players including Yong Kuong Yong, Khairul Fahmi Che Mat and Joseph Kalang Tie were present at an exclusive open session with the three-time World Cup winner.
Pele was in Malaysia as an international ambassador of 100PLUS’ ‘Stay Thirsty’ campaign to encourage youths to strive and push beyond their limits and hunger to be better.
“In football, the most important thing is teamwork,” he told the Malaysia players.
“You need to have a compact team and a nice formation, and not only rely on individual players.
“During my playing career, I always had good players around me and gave me good passes.
“Without them, I wouldn’t have scored 1,282 goals on my own.”
Besides teamwork, he also highlighted that it is important to have discipline.
“In any profession – whether you are a footballer, a doctor or a singer – you must work hard and have discipline.
“When you do that, it is easier to achieve your goal.
“It means nothing if you have the talent but you are not disciplined.”
Malaysia will begin their World Cup qualifying campaign on June 11th.comments
