Terengganu teams MSNT-Separa Elit and Bukit Nenas FC fought it out on the pitch for the winner’s trophy at the Finals of the Piala 1Malaysia Eastern Zone Tournament last week.
While both teams played well throughout the three-day tournament the final whistle saw Bukit Nenas FC become the Eastern Zone champions easily with a score of 3-1. With this, they have secured a place for themselves at the Grand Finals in April and have also won RM5000 in cash and medals.
MNST-Separa Elit was not able to overcome Bukit Nenas FC’s 2 goal lead over them and had to concede victory. They will however also be playing at the Grand Finals in April as well. As second place winners they take home medals and a cash prize of RM3000.
The match for third and fourth place was dominated by teams from Kelantan. Chengal FC and PBSJ Pasir Mas were on top of their game as well but Chengal FC’s single goal at the put them firmly in third place with a score of 2-1. They win RM2000 in cash and medals while PBSJ Pasir Mas takes home RM1000 and medals.
Giving away the prizes today was YBhg En. Saidi bin Salleh, Vice President, Terengganu Football Association.
“I am that the boys are playing to such a high standard,” said YBhg En. Saidi bin Salleh .
“I hope that they will take the lessons of perseverance and team work they gained while playing at this tournament and apply them not just to football but in their approach to life,” he continued.
Ung Su Ling, CEO of Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia said, “As we approach the Grand Finals I am more and more encouraged by the attitudes of the youths who are playing in the tournament.”
“They are full of positivity and determination. These are important attributes that will take them far,” she concluded.
This Under-19 tournament will see participation from 1,440 youths from teams from all states in Malaysia. It consists of five regional tournaments and the Grand Finals. The zone tournaments are held in Sabah, Melaka, Wilayah Persekutuan, Terengganu and Perlis this year. The next zone tournament will be played in Perlis from 3 March to 6 March. It will also be the last zone tournament before the Grand Finals.
The winner and runner up of each zone will proceed to the Grand Finals from 4 April to 11 April 2015 which will be held in the Klang Valley. Zone winners receive RM5,000, medals and certificates of participation while the Grand Final winners will receive a cash prize of RM15,000, medals and certificates of participation.comments
