TMJ rules himself out running for FAM President

Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim has ruled himself out of contention to lead the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

Following Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah’s decision to step down as FAM President, Tunku Ismail was one of the names lobbied to run for the post.

However, the Royal Patron of the Johor Football Association insisted he would not be the right man for the job, despite having run for the hot seat last year.

"I am not suitable to be FAM President," the Crown Prince of Johor posted on Johor Darul Ta’zim’s official Facebook page on Friday.

“It is because I love Johor and I will be biased should there be any issues associated with Johor.

“Therefore, because of this conflict of interest, I am not the right candidate to take over the presidency.”

Tunku Ismail also said he does not want to work with people who are allegedly at the FAM for the wrong reasons.

“Most of them are there for the wrong reasons and not for football.

“[If I were President] I would be sitting at the same table together with those I cannot work with, but I cannot kick them out because they are all elected members.”
