UEFA Champions League Review: Cools inspires Club Brugge to victory

Malaysian-born Dion Cools helped Club Brugge get past Panathanaikos in the UEFA Champions League to set up a potential meeting with Manchester United.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Cools levelled the aggregate score at 2-2 with a close-range header in the 52nd minute before Victor Vazquez and Obbi Oulare sealed the victory for the Belgian side.

The 4-2 aggregate victory ensured Club Brugge's spot in the Champions League play-offs, where they could potentially face Manchester United, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Shakhtar Donetsk and Sporting CP.

The draw will be held on Friday (August 7), while the two-leg ties will be played on August 18/19 and August 25/26.

If Club Brugge manage to reach the main tournament, Cools could be the second Malaysian-born player to play in the UEFA Champions League after Shaun Maloney.
