Angola name African Nations Cup squad

LUANDA - Angola captain Andre Makanga will miss next month's African Nations Cup finals after undergoing knee surgery, the Angolan Football Federation said on Wednesday.

Midfielder Makanga will be out of action for 20 days, ruling him out of the tournament Angola will host from January 10-31.

Angola will also be without veteran full-back Yamba Asha and Portuguese-based attacking midfielder Mateus.

Yamba Asha missed out on participating in Angola's World Cup finals appearance in Germany in 2006 because of a drugs ban.

Angola, who play Estonia in a warm-up friendly on the Portuguese Algarve on Wednesday, open the tournament in Luanda on January 10 against Mali.

They also meet World Cup finalists Algeria and Malawi in Group A at the 16-team tournament.
