Austria beat World Cup-bound Denmark

VIENNA - World Cup qualifers Denmark suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat by Austria in a warm-up match on Wednesday.

Austria, whose last outing in November ended in a 5-1 home defeat by Spain, went ahead in the 12th minute when Franz Schiemer scored after the Danes failed to clear a free kick.

In front of a sparse 13,000 crowd on a wintry evening, Nicklas Bendtner headed the Danes level from a corner five minutes later but Roman Wallner notched the winner for Didi Constantini's team eight minutes before the break.

Denmark face Netherlands, Japan and Cameroon in their World Cup group in South Africa in June.
