Barnes sacked as Tranmere boss

Tranmere Rovers sacked former Liverpool and England winger John Barnes as manager on Friday after the English League One club recorded just two wins in 11 league matches.

The club said physiotherapist Les Parry had been placed in temporary charge. Barnes's assistant Jason McAteer, another former Liverpool player, also had his contract terminated.

Barnes, capped 79 times for England, joined in June after previously coaching Jamaica and Celtic. He was sacked by the Scottish Premier League side in 2000 in his only previous spell as a club manager.
