Athletic Bilbao have insisted that defender Fernando Amorebieta is not for sale, amid reports linking him with a move to Liverpool. The 24-year-old centre-back has made more than 100 league appearances for the la Liga outfit since bursting onto the first-team scene in 2005. And as a result, the towering Venezuelan-born stopper has been tipped to join Rafael Benitez's title-chasing squad at Anfield, with Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger and Fabio Aurelio all currently nursing injuries and Alvaro Arbeloa having joined Real Madrid. However, despite suggestions that the Merseysiders had lodged a €14 million bid for the Spanish U21 international, Bilbao president Fernando Macau has revealed that there has been no approach for Amorebieta's services. “This player is not for sale and we have received no contact from Liverpool,” he said. “At this moment he is a key member of our squad and we have no interest in letting him go.”
