Chamakh flies to Canada

Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh's proposed move to the Premier League has been temporarily put on hold, after the Moroccan travelled with the rest of his team-mates to Canada. The in-demand 25-year-old recently revealed that he had agreed terms with four Premier League clubs - Sunderland, Blackburn, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur - adding that he was less hopeful of securing his dream move to Arsenal. And although Bordeaux president Jean Louis Triaud previously ridiculed the idea of their prize asset joining the North East outfit, Black Cats' boss Steve Bruce is now believed to be closing in on the signing of the Moroccan front-man, who has netted 15 goals for his country. However, les Girondins, who won their first French title in 10 years last season partly thanks to Chamakh's 13 league goals, remain keen on keeping hold of their star striker. And if Chamakh is to finally complete his desired move to England, it will have to wait at least a week, after the Ligue 1 outfit flew to Canada to partake in the Trophee des Champions – the French equivalent of the Community Shield – against Guingamp in Montreal on Saturday. “Frankly, my head has not made this trip,” he told France Football. “My mind is in England,” suggesting that while he will do all he can to ensure Bordeaux take home the trophy, his head will not be 100 percent on the job.
