Chhetri denied permit to play for QPR

CHENNAI, India - Indian striker Sunil Chhetri has missed an opportunity to play for English second division club Queens Park Rangers after being denied a work permit by the British government.

The Football Players' Association of India said the British government permitted only non-European Union players if their country was among the top-70 in the world rankings and the player was a current international.

India, once an Asian powerhouse, is ranked 156th in the world.
