Chievo appoint Pioli after Sassuolo success

MILAN - Chievo appointed Stefano Pioli as coach on Thursday after being impressed by his feat in leading unfashionable Sassuolo to fourth in the Italian second tier last term.

"Pioli will manage Chievo for the 2010/11 season," the Serie A club said in a statement.

The Verona side, who finished mid-table last term, were looking for a coach after Domenico Di Carlo left for Champions League qualifiers Sampdoria.
