Egypt squad for African Nations Cup

CAIRO - Strikers Mido and Amr Zaki were notable absentees when Egypt named their squad on Wednesday for the African Nations Cup.

Mido was left out by coach Hassan Shehata even though he was included in the provisional squad last week and despite playing in Tuesday's 1-1 friendly draw against Malawi in Cairo.

He is on loan to Egyptian club Zamalek from English Championship side Middlesbrough.

Zaki, who spent last season on loan to English Premier League Wigan Athletic, and playmaker Mohamed Aboutrika were left out of the squad for next month's finals in Angola due to injury.

Zamalek player Zaki has a hamstring problem while Al Ahli's Aboutrika is suffering with a foot injury.

Egypt start their campaign against Nigeria on January 12.
