The English FA has appointed Ian Watmore as its new chief executive, succeeding Brian Barwick who left the post at the end of last year. "It's a great challenge and one I'm really looking forward to ... I want to ensure we are achieving success on and off the pitch across all levels of the game," Watmore said in a statement on the FA's website. The FA interviewed three candidates for the job before picking 50-year-old Watmore, a top civil servant whose most recent role was as permanent secretary for the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills. The FA expects him to take up his post in June.
