Giggs agrees new United deal

Ryan Giggs has signed a one-year contract extension that will prolong his stay at Manchester United beyond the 20-year mark to at least 2011, the club said on Friday.

The 36-year-old Welsh winger joined the Red Devils in 1990 and has since made more than 800 appearances for the club.

"Ryan deserves a new contract and I am sure that he will play for another two years," United manager Sir Alex Ferguson told the club's website.

"His form is fantastic at the moment and he is playing some of his best football."

Giggs was named the BBC's Sports Personality of 2009 earlier this month as well as being adjudged the Professional Footballers' Association's top player in April for his role in leading United to a third successive championship.
