SAO PAULO - Porto goalkeeper Helton was called up by Brazil on Monday for their final 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela, the Brazilian Football Confederation said.
Helton was needed as cover for Julio Cesar after second choice Victor was injured playing for Gremio in the Brazilian championship at the weekend. Coach Dunga had already lost defenders Lucio and Juan but opted not to replace them.
Brazil, who have already qualified, are away to eliminated Bolivia on Sunday and at home to Venezuela on Oct. 14.
Venezuela, seventh in the South American group, have a slim chance of progressing to the finals if results go their way. The top four go through and the nation in fifth meets the CONCACAF's fourth-placed team in a playoff.
