Inamoto to return to J-League

TOKYO - Japan midfielder Junichi Inamoto will return to the J-League with Kawasaki Frontale after falling out of favour at French side Stade Rennes.

The 30-year-old will be unveiled as a Frontale player later this week subject to a medical exam, the J-League club announced on Wednesday.

Once affectionately dubbed "T-shirt" by Arsenal fans after joining the English club in 2001 and hardly seeing any first-team action, Inamoto failed to establish himself in France.

Inamoto, who has also had spells for Fulham, Turkey's Galatasaray and Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt in a much-travelled career, is desperate to play at this year's World Cup.

A move to last season's J-League runners-up Frontale will boost the player's chances of being selected for a third straight World Cup finals, as Japan coach Takeshi Okada has indicated.

Inamoto has not played for a Japanese side since moving to Arsenal on loan from Gamba Osaka in 2001.

Japan team mate Kengo Nakamura told the Nikkan Sports: "Without doubt (Inamoto) would be a big addition to the side in terms of skill and the chemistry he would bring."
