Kuranyi subject of Schalke website hoax

German side Schalke 04 were forced to confirm on Wednesday that striker Kevin Kuranyi had not been released by the club, despite a story to the contrary appearing on their official website.

The Brazilian-born front-man, who Everton were interested in signing during the transfer window according to agent Barry Silkman, was the subject of a hacker attack, illegally accessing the Gelsenkirchen-based outfit's website and publishing false information.

News quickly spread throughout the German media that the forward had been released, with the club deciding to shut down their official website for 24 hours while an investigation was carried out.
