Laporta: Barca eager for Puyol decision

MADRID - Barcelona captain Carles Puyol should decide whether to accept the club's offer of a contract extension by the end of the year, president Joan Laporta said on Saturday.

"He already knows our decision, that we want him to continue and for that reason he has an offer," Laporta said on the club's website. "We have to respect that he wants time to come to a decision but we would like him to make it before the end of the year."

Spain international Puyol, 31, made his debut for Barca's first team 10 years ago against Real Valladolid and has played 448 matches since then, scoring seven goals. His current contract expires at the end of this season.
