Liverpool seal deal for 'New Crouch' Ngoo

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Southend United youngster Michael Ngoo, who joins the club's acclaimed academy.

The 16-year-old - who was also linked with a move to Manchester United - could net the Shrimpers £250,000 pending how far the starlet progresses.

And the immediate signs are promising, after Ngoo - who has already been dubbed the 'new Peter Crouch' - helped the Reds' U18 side beat their Barnsley counterparts 2-0 last weekend.

"Liverpool got in touch with us and offered him a trial," said Southend’s head of youth, Ricky Duncan.

"Then they made us an offer which we thought was a fair price.

"When this chance came along for him we couldn’t stand in his way.

"He felt that he could get a Premier League side which was his choice and fortunately it has worked out for him.

"It's very early in his career but we believe he has the potential to go on and carve out a good career for himself at Liverpool."
