Mancienne: Terry an inspiration

Chelsea starlet Michael Mancienne has declared his admiration for his captain of club and country, John Terry. “If I could emulate anyone, it has to be JT,” he says in the new issue of FourFourTwo, out now. “He’s a fantastic captain and someone I can go to with any issues. I’ve always looked to learn from John Terry; how he conducts himself on and off the pitch. He goes into every training session as if it’s a match and I’m a firm believer that you’ve got to train as you play to be the best you can.” Mancienne was the subject of a surprise call-up from Fabio Capello to face Germany in November last year. At the time, he had never even played in the Premier League, with his first-team opportunities coming on loan at Championship outfits QPR and Wolves. And he thinks Terry had a hand in his selection for the senior side. “He said some nice things about me when I received my England call-up. He’s the England captain, so you can’t ask for any more than that,” he said. However, England may have missed out on Mancienne altogether. “I could have played for the Seychelles,” he explains. “My dad won the Seychelles Player of the Year a few times back in the day. In fact, he was also named Player of the Century! “I’m extremely proud of my roots; all my family hail from there and I go back every summer, but I was born in England and I’m English.” The new issue of FourFourTwo is out now, featuring: • Interviews with Kaka, Arshavin, Terry, Motty, Stam, Dave Mackay & the Chuckle Brothers • The Top 50 Football League Players • Football’s Top 20 Hoaxes • The Best Youth Team Ever • Inside The Damned United • Swansea vs Cardiff Plus a FREE 36-page England supplement CHELSEA FANS!
