Mexico beat New Zealand in Pasadena

LOS ANGELES - Two quickfire second half goals helped Mexico overcome New Zealand 2-0 in a battle of World Cup-bound teams at the Pasadena Rosebowl on Wednesday.

Substitute Javier Hernandez opened the scoring in the 53rd minute with a header and Arsenal forward Carlos Vela added the second four minutes later after dribbling past a number of New Zealand defenders.

The Mexicans dominated for long periods of the match, wasting a number of good chances in front of more than 90,000 supporters in California.

Mexico have been drawn in Group A for the World Cup in South Africa alongside the hosts, Uruguay and France with New Zealand in Group F with holders Italy, Paraguay and Slovakia.
