MADRID - Former Spain and Real Madrid midfielder Michel is to coach Getafe until the end of the season, the Primera Liga club said on Tuesday.
Victor Munoz was sacked on Monday after a 2-1 home defeat by Villarreal left Getafe 17th and one point above the relegation places.
"With only five games left we are in the hands of the players. Michel has the experience to get this job done," Getafe president Angel Torres said at the presentation.
"Michel knows the team, has attended some training sessions and is a member of the club. If it all goes well, and he saves us, I will offer him the chance to continue."
The 46-year-old won 66 caps for Spain and has coached Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid Castilla in the lower leagues, but it will be his first experience of managing a side in the top flight. His first game at the helm will be away to Real Mallorca on Sunday.
