NEC's Been agrees to coach Feyenoord

ROTTERDAM - NEC Nijmegen coach Mario Been will take charge of Feyenoord in July after signing a three-year deal with the Rotterdam-based club, who announced details of the move on their website on Wednesday.

The 45-year-old Been will return to the club where he started his playing career before heading back there after hanging up his boots to work with the youth department and as assistant coach from 2000-05.

Been's first head coaching job was at Excelsior Rotterdam, where he won the second division title in 2006, before he left to join NEC, who qualified for the UEFA Cup last season.

"In various ways I am pleased that everything worked out" Been was quoted as saying. "Feyenoord is my club and I always dreamed about returning there as head coach.

"But I also am pleased that I can finish my work in Nijmegen, starting with the match against Feyenoord this coming weekend."

Feyenoord sacked coach Gert Jan Verbeek on Jan 14 and are considering the appointment of an interim coach until the end of the season. Been takes over his duties on July 1.

Feyenoord are a disappointing 12th in the Dutch first division on 20 points after 19 matches.
