Petrov & Berbatov named in Bulgaria squad

SOFIA - Stanimir Stoilov was reappointed as Bulgaria coach on Thursday before naming his squad for next week's friendly against Switzerland.

Stoilov recalled five players who had been ignored by his predecessor Plamen Markov who was sacked following three draws in World Cup qualifiers and a humiliating 6-1 loss to Serbia in a friendly.

Central defenders Elin Topuzakov and Iliyan Stoyanov and left back Ivaylo Petkov were recalled along with midfielder Dimitar Telkiyski and young striker Valeri Domovchiyski.

"I'll give a chance to some players who were forgotten recently as I want to see their shape," Stoilov told a news conference.

Bulgaria are third in European qualifying Group Eight with three points from three matches, seven points behind leaders Italy.


Goalkeepers: Georgi Petkov (Levski Sofia), Dimitar Ivankov (Bursaspor).

Defenders: Zhivko Milanov (Levski Sofia), Yordan Todorov (CSKA Sofia), Kiril Kotev (CSKA Sofia), Stanislav Manolev (Litex Lovech), Ivaylo Petkov (Litex Lovech), Elin Topuzakov (Apoel Tel Aviv), Iliyan Stoyanov (Sanfreche).

Midfielders: Stilian Petrov (Aston Villa), Stanislav Angelov (Energie Cottbus), Velizar Dimitrov (Metalurg Donetsk), Blagoy Georgiev (Terek Groznyi), Dimitar Telkiyski (Apoel Tel Aviv).

Strikers: Dimitar Berbatov (Manchester United), Dimitar Rangelov (Energie Cottbus), Valeri Domovchiyski (Hertha Berlin), Ivelin Popov (Litex Lovech).
