LISBON - Porto retained a four-point lead at the top of the Portuguese Premier League with a 3-0 win at Academica on Sunday as second-placed Sporting scored two late goals to win 2-1 at Guimaraes. The champions lead on 57 points from 25 matches, followed by Sporting on 53 and Benfica on 49. Porto started slowly after their midweek Champions League elimination by Manchester United, creating only one chance in the first half when Cristian Rodriguez shot against the Academica keeper after a Raul Meireles through ball. Porto came out stronger in the second half and Rolando opened the scoring on 56 minutes, heading in a Meireles free kick. Lisandro Lopez doubled the lead a minute later from the penalty spot and Mariano Gonzalez added the third in stoppage time. On Saturday, Sporting strikers Derlei and Liedson scored in the last 10 minutes to earn the three points after Roberto had put Guimaraes ahead in the 56th minute.
