Messi opened the scoring with a trademark run and finish and Henry and Eto'o gave the home side a 3-0 halftime lead. In the second period, Henry finished off some fine work from Andres Iniesta and Xavi and Eto'o converted a penalty.

Renato's 82nd-minute goal settled a scrappy match at the Sanchez Pizjuan to move the Andalusians above Real Madrid into second ahead of the champions' match against Osasuna on Sunday.

Some lax Numancia defending allowed a cross from Jesus Navas through to the Sevilla midfielder and he slotted the ball past keeper Javi Varas.
