Primera Liga reports

MADRID - Brief reports of matches played in the Primera Liga on Saturday:

BARCELONA 1 ESPANYOL 2

Barcelona saw their lead cut to seven points as they were punished for a nervous display in the city derby.

Barca's Seydou Keita was sent off after 38 minutes and just after the restart Ivan de la Pena headed home unmarked at the back post. Four minutes later De la Pena scored from a poor clearance by Victor Valdes.

Yaya Toure volleyed in after a freekick just past the hour but Barca could not stop Espanyol claiming their first league win in 15 attempts.

REAL MADRID 6 REAL BETIS 1

Second-placed Real Madrid were in sparkling form as they chalked up a ninth consecutive success with an easy victory over disorganised visitors Betis.

Gonzalo Higuain opened the scoring after seven minutes before visiting goalkeeper Ricardo Pereira gifted Klaas Jan Huntelaar the second. Huntelaar made it 3-0 before Ricardo Oliveira pulled one back with a long-range shot.

Raul swept in a glorious fourth, lobbed Pereira for the fifth, and Sergio Ramos's diving header made it 6-1 before the break.

SEVILLA 1 ATLETICO MADRID 0

Sevilla strengthened their hold on third place by sneaking a late win over Atletico.

Atletico striker Diego Forlan hit the bar in the first half and the sides looked to have cancelled each other out but Jesus Navas nipped through the centre to score with three minutes left.

VILLARREAL 2 SPORTING GIJON 1

Villarreal climbed into the Champions League places with a victory but they had to come from behind after Mate Bilic put Sporting ahead in the opening minute.

Giuseppe Rossi scored from Cani's pass to level a minute later and Joan Capdevila then rose to head what proved to be the winner at a freekick in the 35th.
