Tottenham Hotspur have moved closer to signing veteran Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy after another fruitful round of talks between the London club and Real Madrid. Van Nistelrooy, who turns 33 on July 1, could join Spurs for as little as £1.25 million as Florentino Perez's new administration look to offload the striker to make way for their new signings. With Darren Bent struggling to justify his £16.65 million price tag and Roman Pavlyuchenko experiencing an inconsistent debut season in the Premiership, Redknapp is keen to expand his options. The former West Ham and Portsmouth manager, who has a reputation for revitalising careers, sees the man who scored 150 goals in 220 appearances for United as the perfect figure to lead the Spurs line.
