Rohr named new Gabon boss

LIBREVILLE - German born manager Gernot Rohr has been appointed as the new coach of 2012 African Nations Cup co-hosts Gabon, the country's football federation has said.

Rohr, 56, replaces Alain Giresse, whose contract was not renewed after Gabon were eliminated in the first round of this year's Nations Cup finals in Angola.

Former Girondins Bordeaux coach Rohr, who was sacked by Ligue 2 side Nantes in December after a short spell in charge, signed a two-year deal over the weekend.

Gabon will co-host the 2012 Nations Cup finals with Equatorial Guinea.
