Rosario Central go top in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES - Rosario Central beat Chacarita Juniors 1-0 on Saturday to claim the outright lead in the Argentine Championship just a few months after they narrowly avoided relegation.

Central followed up their midweek win over River Plate with their fourth straight win of the Apertura, the first of two tournaments in the 2009-10 season, to be the only club with a 100 percent record.

The in-form side skipped two points clear of title holders Velez Sarsfield, who were held 0-0 at home by Diego Simeone's San Lorenzo after finishing the match with 10 men when Chilean international defender Waldo Ponce was sent off for a second yellow card offence.

Boca Juniors slipped back to 10th place on the table with a surprise 2-0 loss to recently promoted Atletico Tucuman, who scored through Juan Pablo Pereyra and Fabio Escobar.

Third-placed Estudiantes can join Velez in second spot if they win at home to Independiente on Sunday.
