Scotland call-up O'Connor to replace Kyle

Birmingham City striker Garry O'Connor was called up to the Scotland squad on Monday as a replacement for the injured Kevin Kyle for World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia and the Netherlands.

Kyle underwent knee surgery on Friday after tearing a cartilage during Kilmarnock's match against Morton last week.

Kyle had been recalled by Scotland coach George Burley following a five-year absence from the national team.

Scotland face both sides at Hampden Park, playing Macedonia on Saturday and the Netherlands four days later, and must win both to stand a realistic chance of finishing second in Group Nine and reaching the play-offs.

The Dutch have already qualified for next year's finals in South Africa.
