Soehn stands down as DC United coach

WASHINGTON - DC United coach Tom Soehn has stood down from his position with the Major League Soccer team after failing to make the playoffs this season.

Soehn's contract runs out at the end of the calendar year and a statement on the team's official website said he had informed them he did not want to be considered for the job.

Soehn worked as an assistant coach at the club for three years before taking on the head coaching role in 2006.

Under his guidance, United won the Supporters Shield, awarded to the team with the best regular season record, in 2007 and the U.S Open Cup a year later.
