Sol linked with Serie A pair

Serie A rivals Sampdoria and Genoa are both interested in signing out-of-contract defender Sol Campbell, according to reports.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal stopper was linked with a host of clubs following his departure from Portsmouth at the end of the 2008/09 campaign, including Aston Villa, Everton and Newcastle United.

However, he shocked the football world by opting to join League Two side Notts County on a five-year deal, following their lucrative takeover by Munto Finance and signing of Kasper Schmeichel for a club record fee.

But the ex-England international's career at Meadow Lane ended after just a month, with the 35-year-old making only one appearance for the Magpies prior to his departure, accusing the club of not fulfilling promises made to him when he agreed to sign on the dotted line.

And, according to the Daily Mirror, Serie A leaders Sampdoria and city rivals Genoa are now considering making an approach for the two-time Premier League winner.

Hull City are also believed to be keen on recruiting the powerful defender to boost their hopes of league survival following the sale of Michael Turner to Sunderland.
