Swindon part company with manager Malpas

FourFourTwo-sponsored Swindon Town have ended the reign of their manager Maurice Malpas after just 10 months in charge at the County Ground. The former Motherwell boss had won just four of 14 League 1 fixtures this season, with two cup upsets - to Histon in the FA Cup and Brighton in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy - in the past seven days doing little to aid the Scot's cause. In a succinct statement released by the Robins on Friday, the club said Malpas had departed "with immiediate effect by mutual agreement." "The board would like to place on record their thanks for the professionalism that Maurice brought to the club in so many areas during his tenure.''

Assistant manager Dave Byrne will be taking charge of team affairs until further notice, commencing with the visit of table-topping Leicester City on Saturday.
