Uzbek Ismailov fails doping test

ZURICH - Uzbekistan defender Anzur Ismailov has been banned for three months after failing a doping test following his team's 2010 World Cup qualifier against Bahrain in June, FIFA said on Friday.

"The player's urine sample was consequently analysed by the Ankara Doping Control Laboratory... and revealed the presence of the substance Tethrahydrocannabinol Metabolite, a prohibited substance," said FIFA in a statement.

FIFA said the ban would apply at both national and international level.

Bahrain won the match 1-0.

Ismailov, 24, was a regular in Uzbekistan's qualifying campaign for next year's finals. The Uzbeks finished bottom of their group in the final round of the Asian qualifiers.
