Vermes named new Kansas coach

MIAMI - The Kansas City Wizards have appointed Peter Vermes as head coach until the end of the current season, the Major League Soccer club said on Tuesday. Vermes, who is technical director at the Wizards, takes on his new role after Curt Onalfo was sacked on Monday in the wake of the 6-0 loss to FC Dallas. Kansas are next to bottom of the Eastern Conference and Vermes, a former US international, played for the club during their championship winning season in 2000.
