Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says the Gunners are Patrick Vieira's No.1 choice, should he choose to return to English shores this summer. The Gunners' arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, have been strongly linked with a move for the 33-year-old Frenchman, who made more than 250 league appearances and won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups during his time at Highbury. However, speaking in Beijing as Spurs prepared to face West Ham United in the Barclays Asia Trophy, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp admitted that talks had stalled over a potential deal. The former Portsmouth manager added that he was surprised to hear of Wenger's apparent interest in bringing the central midfielder back to North London, saying: “That is surprising but I had heard nothing about it. He belonged to Arsenal, he was fantastic there so if an opportunity to go back there came along then I'm sure he would take it." And the Emirates Stadium supremo has now admitted that he is aware of Vieira's reported interest in returning to the club, but stopped short of confirming that he was set to offer the Arsenal legend a new deal. "I speak to Patrick. I speak to many players who have been here because I keep good connections with them," he told the club's official website. "He has gone through a difficult period in the last season and I am aware that he wants to come here. "I think Patrick is a legend here and he would always like to come back to this Club. That would be his first choice. "At the moment we need to look at the level of experience in our squad to make this kind of decision. "There is a football decision and then there's the psychological impact of a player of that stature coming in. "We are nowhere near to making a decision like that. But it is a possibility. We don't rule it out and we don't say we will do it. That's my decision at the moment.” NEWS: Toure - Arsenal should re-sign Vieira NEWS: Redknapp rocked by Vieira return reports NEWS: Redknapp - All quiet on Vieira front NEWS: Henry - I'd never advise anyone to sign for Spurs NEWS: Redknapp - Vieira tempted by Tottenham NEWS: Vieira set to stay at San Siro NEWS: Gold - Vieira deal not dead yet NEWS: Birmingham bid to bring in Vieira NEWS: Vieira pondering Inter Milan future NEWS: Vieira hints at return to homeland NEWS: Vieira rules out return to England ARSENAL FANS!
