SOFIA - Bulgaria central defender Zhivko Zhelev turned down an offer from CSKA Sofia to instead join Romanian giants Steaua Bucharest on an 18-month contract on Thursday, the player said.
Zhelev, who became a free agent after leaving Otelul Galati last year, said he had moved to the Bucharest-based club to team up again with coach Mihai Stoichita as the two worked together at Litex Lovech several years ago.
"I'm very pleased because Steaua are the best Romanian club, former European champions," Zhelev, 30, told Bulgarian media. "No doubt, I want to win the league title and play in the Champions League next season."comments
