Zhirkov out of Argentina friendly

MOSCOW - Russia have lost another first-choice winger to injury after Vladimir Bystrov joined Yuri Zhirkov on the sidelines ahead of their home friendly against Argentina on Wednesday.

"Bystrov has a minor muscle injury so he is out," Russia coach Guus Hiddink told reporters on Monday in reference to the Spartak Moscow right winger.

Earlier, Dutchman Hiddink said Chelsea left winger Zhirkov was also ruled out of the Moscow friendly with a knee injury.

"I first felt sharp pain in my knee after our (friendly) game against AC Milan (last month) and it's not getting any better so I can't even train," Zhirkov, who joined Chelsea from CSKA Moscow a month ago, was quoted as saying by local media.

"We decided it would be better for Zhirkov to stay in London so he could recover quickly," Hiddink said. "But I hope Zhirkov and Bystrov will both recover in time for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Wales."
