Zhirkov voted Russian Player of the Year

CSKA Moscow winger Yuri Zhirkov has been voted Russia's Player of the Year for the first time in a nationwide poll conducted by the country's FA.

The 25-year-old, No.50 in FourFourTwo's 100 Best Players in the World 2008, beat Zenit St Petersburg playmaker Andrei Arshavin, one of the outstanding players at Euro 2008 where the Russians reached the semi-finals for the first time in 20 years.

Zhirkov's CSKA team mate and fellow Russia international Igor Akinfeyev was named the country's top goalkeeper.
