Fans React: Approval for Sundram’s selection

The netizens showed rare support for Sundram’s choice of players, after he made a few surprise national team call-ups…

Since V.Sundramoorthy took over as head coach of Singapore, many fans have voiced their disapproval of his squad selections.

Much of it was directed at the players being former LionsXII members, whom the fans felt were undeserving of a spot in the national team.

However, when Sundram named his latest squad for the international friendlies against Malaysia and Hong Kong, the fans were surprisingly supportive.

Good blend of experience and youth

Among the surprises was the return of Tampines captain Mustafic Fahrudin, who last featured for the Lions back at the successful 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup.

Three uncapped players, including Singapore legend Fandi Ahmad’s eldest son, Irfan Fandi, and Geylang fleet-footed winger Shawal Anuar were also selected.

Play Irfan as a striker

With the Lions suffering from a dearth of quality strikers at the moment, many fans hoped Irfan would be tested as a striking option, even if he was brought into the squad as a defender.

And there will be the haters...

But as always, there are those who refuse to believe Singapore can come good on the international level.
