The Slovakian striker scored truckloads in his three seasons in the S.League, but prioritised team achievements ahead of personal goals when asked by FourFourTwo about his targets for the new season.
“For me, team achievement is the most important thing,” he told FourFourTwo. “I have never thought about how many goals I want to score.
“I can also help my teammates to score and the team wins. That is most important. If the goals I score helps Hougang achieve a good position in the table and go on a successful cup run, then I will be very happy.”
Kaplan, who captained Geylang International in the 2015 season, was top of Hougang coach K Balagumaran’s shopping list for the new season.
As for the striker himself, Kaplan has been impressed with the youth and vitality of his new colleagues and tipped teammate M Anumathan to shine in the 2016 season.
“There are many good young players in Hougang. The one who has impressed me the most is ‘Anu’.
For me, team achievement is the most important thing. I have never thought about how many goals I want to score.
“He is a young player who has already played for the Singapore national team. His strength on the ball will be a useful asset for the team.
"I think he will do well and will only get better as he plays more games.”
Kaplan also had this message to the fans.
“Hougang United has very good fans. I remember them always singing and cheering. I hope they will continue to support us for the 2016 season.
"I will do my best for every game. Please come down for our first game at the Hougang Stadium on February 18 against Home United.”
