Balestier Khalsa are dreaming of a third trophy in as many years after edging out Hougang United 3-2 at Jalan Besar Stadium on Monday night.
The Tigers got off to the worst possible start, conceding a goal inside the first 18 seconds.
From the kick-off, Hougang knocked the ball around before Carlos Delgado laid on the perfect through ball for Fareez Farhan to finish coolly past an onrushing Zaiful Nizam.
Despite the early setback, Marko Kraljevic’s side managed to hit back in the 26th minute when Croatian hotshot Miroslav Kristic slotted home from the spot after being brought down by Hougang centre-back Kenneth Chang.
Balestier then made it 2-1 nine minutes later as Kristic hammered a shot into the top left corner for his second goal of the night after an intelligent Zulkiffli Hassim cutback just inside the area.
Hougang managed to level matters on 74 minutes when Argentinian playmaker Delgado volleyed into an empty net after Fareez had capitalised on an uncharacteristic error by Balestier keeper Zaiful.
However the Tigers had the last laugh 11 minutes later as substitute Ignatius Ang latched onto Tarik Cmajcanin’s lofted ball inside the box, sending his shot over a stranded Ahmadulhaq in the Hougang goal.
The victory means Balestier will now face Albirex Niigata (Singapore) in the final which will be played on Friday at the same venue – a chance for the Tigers to add to their 2013 League Cup and 2014 RHB Singapore Cup crowns.
