Exclusive: Guam star secures Thailand move

One of the stars behind Guam’s recent international success, Brandon McDonald, has signed with Thai Premier League club Chainat Hornbill.

The 29-year-old defender becomes the first player from Guam to play in a leading Asian national competition with the deal being initially through to the completion of the current season with an option for a further term.

Equally comfortable playing in a central midfield role, McDonald scored the first goal as Guam defeated India 2-1 last month to help guide the Matao to top spot in Group D, five points clear of 2014 World Cup representatives Iran.

McDonald was born and raised on the US mainland and has vast experience at the highest level playing almost 150 MLS matches for LA Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes and DC United.

Chainat sit 12th in the Thai Premier League and after narrowly avoided relegation last term the acquisition of the sturdy McDonald could be the key they need to making a push up the table.
